Is your new mobile phone already broken? You received a mysterious bill? Your internet is way too slow? Are you wondering which insurance policies are important for you as a student?
Advice for students

The Brandenburg Consumer Advice Centre advises students on a wide range of topics. We help with general consumer law-related issues, i.e. contracts, invoices and complaints as well as insurance and financial services. Of particular interest to students is the independent advice on student financing outside funding provided under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG). We help you to evaluate different loan offers.

Who is eligible to receive free advice?

Due to a cooperation with the AStA student unions Potsdam and Eberswalde, the advice is free for students of the

  • University of Potsdam
  • University of Applied Sciences Potsdam
  • University for Sustainable Development Eberswalde

Please note: The number of free consultations per semester is limited.

How does the advice process work?

Legal advice is currently usually provided by telephone. You need to make an appointment for this. This is easy to do online or using our service hotline on 0331-98 22 999 5 (Mon-Fri, 9-18).

When making an appointment, please make sure to mention that you are a student at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam, the Viadrina or HNE Eberswalde and would like to receive free advice. Next, you have to fill out this form to allocate an available date to you to receive free advice. It is best to have your certificate of enrolment or student ID ready for this.

Do you only offer advice in German?

In addition to German, we also offer advice in the Polish language. We offer an interpreting service for other languages. Click here for more information.
